Solutions for School Districts
School districts throughout the United States are confronting growing budget pressures due to state and local revenue shortfalls, at the same time as teachers and students require new and upgraded information technology. The districts are aggressively using Federal e-rate funding to explore new technology investments. Broadband wireless networking technology provides the ideal cost and benefit proposition for such circumstances. Wireless solutions offer flexibility and cost savings based on quicker installation cycles, ability to be deployed in geographically troubling areas, reduced operating cost and the ability to rapidly make networking changes. In one increasingly common scenario, all schools in a single district replace individual T1 wireline circuits with a broadband wireless network that enables them to share access to a single T3 circuit, thus dramatically reducing monthly recurring charges and saving enough in a matter of months to pay for the wireless network. Case StudyTrillion Digital Communications, a leading provider of “last mile” broadband connectivity and Internet access for K-12 schools, colleges/universities, governments and municipalities, healthcare systems, libraries and commercial businesses of all types in the Southeastern United States, has standardized major portions of its network deployments on Terabeam equipment. Before making the selection, Trillion carefully evaluated outdoor fixed wireless broadband networking products from several vendors. Trillion has already installed more than 100 TeraBridge™ 5345 or 5845 high-speed point-to-point wireless links for the customer premise and backhaul segments of data networks serving K-12 schools throughout the Southeast. By utilizing the TeraBridge™ products, Trillion’s networks span hundreds of “wireless link-miles” to cost-effectively deliver broadband connectivity to the school districts. The TeraBridge™ 5345 and 5845 are wireless bridges operating at 5.3 GHz or 5.8 GHz, respectively, capable of delivering 45 Mbps of full-duplex throughput (90 Mbps aggregate) at distances of up to 40 miles. “After a thorough evaluation of Terabeam and alternative providers, we have standardized on Terabeam for our most common customer premise equipment and backbone redundancy requirements,” said Terry Johnson, CEO of Trillion. “We chose Terabeam because it offers the most performance for the money; the Terabeam systems we installed have performed more reliably than other vendors’ equipment; and Terabeam’s comprehensive product portfolio provides even higher capacity solutions as our customers’ needs grow.” “In addition to being a premier provider of broadband services to education, governments, and healthcare institutions in the Southeast, Trillion is well known in our industry for the rigorous field testing they perform prior to selecting vendors,” said Robert Fitzgerald, Terabeam Wireless’ CEO. “We are delighted that we have met Trillion’s exacting standards, and that together we are demonstrating the power of wireless networking to cost-effectively meet the growing communication and information needs of their customers.” Return to the Customer Section.
