Falls Church, Virginia November 28, 2001: Young Design, Inc. (YDI), a world leader in extended range solutions for wireless data distribution systems has received Part 15 certification from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for the sale and use of YDI's revolutionary Emerald USB-ANT.
The Emerald USB-ANT is a 2.4 GHz high gain flat panel antenna with a built-in Spread Spectrum IEEE802.11b Wireless LAN adapter with a USB interface. With an over-the-air data rate of 11 Mbps and a line of sight range of over 5 miles, the Emerald USB-ANT offers Wireless Internet service providers a great solution to their last mile wireless links to their client. The integrated form factor eliminates coax cable loss since the radio is in the antenna. This give the maximum possible range and and greatly facilitates installation. The USB-ANT provides the lowest cost customer premise equipment (CPE) solution with the ease of interfacing with the client equipment through a simple USB interface. No longer will Wireless ISPs using the license free 2.4 GHz band need to open customer's computers to utilize long-range, low-cost CPE equipment!
Michael Young, President and Chief Technology Officer of YDI states, "We are particularly excited about the USB-ANT because it specifically addresses the needs of our ISP customers for robust, low-cost CPE equipment that is easy to install and configure. Furthermore, since our FCC grant does not mandate professional installation, we believe the USB-ANT represents the first wireless ISP CPE equipment that can be installed by the customer. This significantly changes the economics for wireless ISPs and should dramatically accelerate the nationwide roll out efforts for most of our wireless Internet service providers."
